Pelvic health physiotherapy focuses on conditions affecting the pelvic floor muscles and related structures, including bladder and bowel concerns, pelvic pain, and changes during pregnancy and menopause. Treatment is personalized to improve strength, function, and comfort, supporting better control and quality of life.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is increasingly established in the research as a first line of defence against incontinence and pelvic pain. Incontinence is not a normal part of aging — and it responds to treatment.
The pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, uterus, prostate and rectum, and must both contract to maintain continence and relax to allow normal function. When they are too tight, too weak, or poorly coordinated, symptoms follow — and a trained pelvic health physiotherapist can identify which pattern is driving yours.

Common conditions we treat with Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Pelvic health concerns are common across all ages and life stages — and far more treatable than most people expect. We assess and treat concerns including pelvic pain, incontinence, prolapse, pregnancy-related and postpartum changes, menopause, and pelvic health in children and youth.
What to expect from your Eramosa physiotherapy experience
Path to Improved Health is the framework every Eramosa patient follows. We’ve used it to guide assessment, treatment, and recovery since 1997 — and it’s how we make sure nothing about your care is left to chance.
Assessment and accurate diagnosis
Your first appointment runs 45 to 60 minutes, one-on-one in a private treatment room. Pelvic health assessments move at your pace — your physiotherapist explains every step, and any internal examination happens only with your informed consent.
Treatment that targets the cause
Treatment is tailored to your assessment findings. When muscles are both tight and weak, tension is treated before strengthening — Kegels aren’t always the answer. Your plan may combine hands-on treatment, exercise, education, and self-care strategies.

Reassessment and return to function
Recovery isn’t linear, so your plan shouldn’t be either. Your physiotherapist reassesses as you progress and adjusts your plan until you’re back to the activities that matter to you.

Common questions about pelvic health physiotherapy at Eramosa. Still have questions? We’re happy to help.
No. Physiotherapists in Ontario are primary care providers, so you can book an assessment directly. Direct billing to most major insurers is also available at our clinics.
Your first appointment is a one-on-one conversation and assessment in a private treatment room, and it moves at your pace. Your physiotherapist takes a full history, explains what they’d like to assess and why, and builds a treatment plan with you. Nothing happens without your consent.
No. An internal examination is one assessment tool, and it is only ever performed with your informed consent. If an internal assessment isn’t appropriate or comfortable for you, your physiotherapist can work with external assessment and treatment approaches.
Not always. Kegels are not indicated for every pelvic floor problem — sometimes they can do more harm than good, and they are often not performed correctly. Your assessment identifies whether your pelvic floor needs strengthening, relaxation, or both, and your plan is built from there.
People of all ages and genders. We treat pelvic pain, bladder and bowel concerns, prolapse, pregnancy-related and postpartum changes, menopause-related symptoms, and pelvic health concerns in children and youth.
