A concussion or vestibular disorder can bring on dizziness, headaches, balance problems, and trouble concentrating, along with real uncertainty about what recovery looks like. At Eramosa Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists assess the systems that contribute to these symptoms, including the neck and the vestibular system, and build a treatment plan around what’s actually driving them rather than just the symptoms themselves.
Concussions are a type of brain injury that temporarily reduce brain activity; most resolve within one to two weeks and don’t lead to long-term effects when treated appropriately. Our physiotherapists use advanced manual therapy for the neck and vestibular system, along with balance and vision training exercises where appropriate, and follow a cardiovascular conditioning and sport-specific protocol before making return-to-sport recommendations. We also offer a Concussion Baseline Testing Program for individuals and sporting organizations, which includes a detailed assessment by a Registered Physiotherapist covering medical history, neck movement and strength, visual-ocular (VOMS) testing, and balance, cognition, and memory testing (SCAT5).
For vestibular conditions such as BPPV (benign positional paroxysmal vertigo), our physiotherapists conduct an in-depth assessment to determine the cause of your symptoms and develop an individualized treatment program. Treatment may include canalith repositioning maneuvers, exercises to help the brain adapt to movement-provoked symptoms, vision therapy, and balance training.

What to expect from Concussion & Vestibular Rehab at Eramosa
Path to Improved Health is the framework every Eramosa patient follows. We’ve used it to guide assessment, treatment, and recovery since 1997 — and it’s how we make sure nothing about your child’s care is left to chance.
Recovery from a concussion or vestibular disorder follows a clear process, from assessment through to a confident return to school, work, or sport.
Assessment
Your physiotherapist evaluates the systems that may be contributing to your symptoms, including neck movement and strength, the vestibular system, and, where relevant, visual-ocular function and balance, cognition, and memory.
Targeted treatment
Treatment may include advanced manual therapy for the neck and vestibular system, canalith repositioning maneuvers for BPPV, balance and vision training exercises, and a cardiovascular conditioning and sport-specific protocol before any return-to-sport recommendation.

Discharge and follow-up
Most concussion patients are cleared for return to school, work, or sport within about two weeks, though recovery varies and can take longer for more severe symptoms or patients under 18. You’ll receive home exercises and resources at discharge, and we keep your family doctor informed of your progress; if symptoms recur, you’re welcome to return to the clinic.

No. Physiotherapists in Ontario are primary care providers, so you can book an assessment directly. Direct billing to most major insurers is also available at our clinics.
Most concussion patients are cleared for return to school, work, or sport within about two weeks, though recovery varies and can take longer for more severe symptoms or for patients under 18. Your physiotherapist will give you a timeline specific to your symptoms at your first assessment.
BPPV (benign positional paroxysmal vertigo) is a common inner-ear condition that causes brief, intense dizziness with certain head movements. It’s assessed and treated with canalith repositioning maneuvers, along with exercises and balance training where needed — many patients notice improvement quickly.
Not necessarily — appropriate, guided activity generally supports a better recovery than complete rest. Your physiotherapist builds a graded return-to-school, return-to-work, or return-to-sport plan based on your symptoms, rather than a blanket recommendation to stop everything.
Yes.
