What to expect from your Eramosa physiotherapy experience
Path to Improved Health is the framework every Eramosa patient follows. We’ve used and refined it for nearly three decades of clinical practice. It isn’t a marketing phrase — it’s how we structure care so that you understand what’s happening, why we’re doing it, and how it’s working as you go. Three phases shape every patient’s journey:
Assessment and accurate diagnosis
The first appointment runs 45 to 60 minutes, one-on-one in a private treatment room. Your physiotherapist takes a thorough history, examines the affected area, and runs movement, strength, and functional tests to identify the cause — not just the symptoms. By the end of the visit you’ll have an accurate diagnosis explained in plain language, a treatment plan written for your specific situation, and your first home exercise program. Hands-on treatment usually begins the same day.
Treatment that targets the cause
Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes. Treatment combines hands-on manual therapy with progressive exercise, and may include acupuncture, dry needling, IMS, shockwave therapy, ultrasound, or taping when the evidence supports it for your diagnosis. Your home exercise program is the other half of the work — detailed instructions with pictures so you can keep moving forward between visits. For most musculoskeletal conditions, patients see meaningful change within 4 to 6 weeks at 2 to 3 visits per week.

Reassessment and return to function
Recovery isn’t linear, so your plan shouldn’t be either. Your physiotherapist reassesses at every visit and adjusts your treatment as your body responds. The goal is full return to work, sport, or daily life — and a clear understanding of what to do if symptoms come back. If progress stalls or imaging is needed, we coordinate directly with your healthcare provider.

Common questions about Orthopaedic physiotherapy at Eramosa. Still have questions? We’re happy to help.
No. Physiotherapists in Ontario are primary care providers — you can book directly without a referral. Some extended health insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement, so it’s worth checking with your insurer if you plan to claim. We can help you verify before your appointment.
Extended health insurance often covers some or all of the cost of physiotherapy, and we offer direct billing to most major insurers so your claim is submitted for you at the time of your appointment. Because OHIP coverage for physiotherapy depends on individual circumstances, we recommend confirming your specific situation with your insurance provider or family doctor before your visit.
Your first appointment runs 45 to 60 minutes and includes a thorough assessment, a diagnosis explained in plain language, and your first home exercise program — treatment often begins the same day. Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes.
Loose, comfortable clothing that lets you move freely and gives your physiotherapist easy access to the area being treated works best — shorts for a knee or hip assessment, for example, or a looser top for a shoulder or neck concern. If a specific test calls for better visibility, your physiotherapist may ask you to change into shorts or a gown, so bringing a change of clothes is a good idea.
Physiotherapy shouldn’t be significantly painful. Some techniques — like manual therapy or certain strengthening exercises — can bring on temporary discomfort, especially if you’re already in pain, but your physiotherapist works within what you can tolerate and adjusts as you go. Tell them if something doesn’t feel right; treatment is dosed to you, not a fixed protocol.
