GLA:D™ and SAFE are delivered as a single group exercise class. The programme is largely the same in both cases; the difference is whether the person delivering it is GLA:D™-trained. It is designed for people living with arthritis — including stiff or painful hips and knees, and hip and knee osteoarthritis, whether preventatively, before surgery or after it — and it is also an active way of managing osteoporosis and reducing the risk of falls.

This is a group exercise class rather than a one-to-one appointment. Classes run approximately 60 minutes, once a week, with rolling enrollment. The program is delivered by Physiotherapists or Physiotherapist Assistants for which they are supervised and delegated to by Physiotherapists.

An assessment by one of our Physiotherapists is needed prior to participation in the class. The Physiotherapist will ensure that the class is appropriate as part of the treatment plan.

About the GLA:D™ / SAFE program

What it is

One group exercise class combining the GLA:D™ program and SAFE — Strengthening for Arthritis & Fall Prevention Exercise.

Who it targets

People living with arthritis, and anyone managing osteoporosis or working to reduce their risk of falls.

How it works

A group exercise class of approximately 60 minutes, led by a Physiotherapist or Physiotherapist Assistant, featuring “neuromuscular training” — functional exercises with the goal of making everyday tasks like going up or down stairs easier.

What to expect from your Eramosa GLA:D™ / SAFE experience

Path to Improved Health is the framework every Eramosa patient follows. We’ve used it to guide assessment, treatment, and recovery since 1997 — and it’s how we make sure nothing about your care is left to chance.

Starting in the right place

We start by understanding where you are now — your history, your goals, and what you want to get back to — so the programme is pitched at the right level for you from the first session.

Guided sessions

Sessions are guided throughout. Technique is coached, exercises are adjusted as you go, and the level is set so that it challenges you without putting you at risk.

Progressing your program

As you build strength and confidence your exercises progress. The class is designed to leave you with something you can carry on with independently.
