Occupational therapy for children with attention and focus difficulties, including ADHD — practical strategies for school, home, and daily life. No referral is needed to book.

Occupational therapy can be very beneficial for children with attention and focus difficulties, including those diagnosed with ADHD or related conditions. Our occupational therapist assesses attention and focus through clinical observation — often in your child’s school or home environment — caregiver reports, and, where appropriate, input from your child directly, then builds targeted strategies around the goals you set together.

How we help

Support may draw on several areas, including:

  • Sensory processing — individualized sensory strategies suited to your child’s specific needs
  • Executive functioning — organizational skills for breaking tasks into manageable steps, and strategies for planning and prioritizing
  • Behavioural strategies — self-regulation techniques and positive reinforcement to encourage focus
  • Motor skills and coordination — fine motor work that supports tasks like writing, and gross motor activities that build overall focus and body awareness
  • Environmental adjustments — reducing distractions, seating changes, or tools like fidgets or weighted vests where they help a child maintain focus
  • Cognitive behavioural techniques — mindfulness, relaxation, and strategies to build a more positive mindset toward tasks
  • Routine and structure — consistent routines, visual schedules, and task lists that reduce anxiety and support follow-through
  • Caregiver education — strategies for parents and collaboration with school staff, so approaches stay consistent across settings

What to expect from your EPA for Kids occupational therapy experience

Path to Improved Health is the framework every Eramosa patient follows. We’ve used it to guide assessment, treatment, and recovery since 1997 — and it’s how we make sure nothing about your child’s care is left to chance.

Assessment

Your occupational therapist assesses attention and focus through clinical observation, caregiver reports, and, where appropriate, your child’s own input.

Goals set together

Once assessment is complete, your therapist develops targeted interventions in collaboration with you and your child, built around the goals that matter most to your family.

Consistency across settings

We educate parents and caregivers on strategies that support focus at home, and collaborate with school staff so the approach stays consistent everywhere your child spends time.

Common questions about attention and focus support at EPA. Still have questions?

No. You can book an occupational therapy assessment for your child directly with our clinic. Direct billing to most major insurers is also available.

No. Occupational therapy can help children with attention and focus difficulties whether or not they have a formal ADHD diagnosis. Your assessment identifies the specific challenges and builds strategies from there.

Collaboration with school staff is often part of the plan, since consistent strategies across home and school tend to work best. We’ll discuss what makes sense for your child.

Depending on your child’s needs, we might recommend tools like fidgets, weighted vests, visual schedules, or task lists — always tailored to what actually helps your child focus, not a one-size-fits-all kit.

Yes. We assess attention and focus in the environments where it matters most to your family, whether that’s mainly at home, at school, or both.
